The city will look into their relationship with community centres and their boards of directors. This comes after Councillor Joe Virdiramo asked council to look into the issue after some directors of the West Thunder Community Centre resigned earlier this month and forced the closure of the centre. Manager of Community Services, Mark Smith, says they’re working to ensure a community centre shut down doesn’t happen again. Virdiramo says he wants to avoid any future incidents like the one at West Thunder.
Youth Centres Thunder Bay will be receiving $25,000. Council voted in favour of the funding, including councillor Andrew Foulds, who says this type of investment is important. The money will go towards operating the facility.
Low income seniors have more time to apply for the city’s property tax and water bill rebate program. Council waived the June 30th deadline in order to allow additional applications to be received up until September 30th.
