A 50-year old Thunder Bay man will appear in court on charges of drunk driving and stolen property.
Police say last night around 6pm, they responded to reports of a drunk driver on highway 590.
Police were able to stop the Dodge truck on highway 588, which they also found was stolen from Thunder Bay.
The driver also faces charges of driving while disqualified.
LOCAL MALE ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH NUMEROUS OFFENCES
(THUNDER BAY, ON) – On March 19, 2017 at approximately 6:00 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an impaired driver on Highway 590. The vehicle was described as a Dodge truck.
Further investigation into this incident revealed the Dodge truck had been stolen from a residence in the City of Thunder Bay.
Shortly after officers were dispatched, the vehicle in question was located by an officer on Highway 588.
The officer spoke to the driver of the truck and determined the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to the Thunder Bay OPP detachment for further tests.
Brent SAND, 50 years of age, from Thunder Bay was arrested and charged with the following offences:
-Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code,
-Theft of Motor Vehicle contrary to section 333.1 of the Criminal Code,
-Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code,
-Driving While Disqualified contrary to section 259(4) of the Criminal Code,
-Fail or Refuse to Provide Breath Sample contrary to section 254(5) of the Criminal Code,
-Mischief Under $5000 contrary to section 430 (4) of the Criminal Code.
He was held for a video court appearance and has since been remanded into custody at the Thunder Bay District Jail.
