The Catholic School Board is defending its policy on head lice after a complaint from a parent.
Spokesperson Alex Korolenko tells us they have a policy that allows principals to send children home who have head lice, and not allowed back until the problem is resolved.
She says if the parent hasn’t taken the procedures to remove the head lice, the child will be sent home.
The parent in this case, is concerned the board policy is not strict enough and allows a child with the problem to come to school.
But Korolenko says the rule as it stands now, tries to strike a balance when it comes to treating students with sensitivity, dignity, and privacy when it comes to health issues.
She notes the policy is going to be looked at again next year.
