The fate of the Federal Government’s legislation governing grain shipments by rail could be decided next week.
Thunder Bay’s Port Authority CEO Tim Heney feels new government rules that attempt to prevent log jams won’t fix the current back log.
“I think the railroads get a bad rap for some of this stuff, they’ve had a lot of strides and efficiency in our Port we’ve seen some pretty good turn around times. They struggled a little bit through the winter but I think they’ll get that ramped up pretty good going forward.”
The glut of grain is putting an increased pressure on rail companies and the government to act before the start of the next crop season this August.
Meanwhile, our port is willing to help in an effort to alleviate the backlog. Heney tells us they’re capable of taking more work on if they are needed. (File photo)
