The city fire service is now doling out fines for residents who fail to have a carbon monoxide detector in their homes.
The first to feel the pinch is the owner of a south side residence.
When fire crews arrived to battle a kitchen fire at the Prince Arthur Boulevard home they noticed there was no smoke alarm either.
Both are mandatory under the law.
Each ticket carries a fine of 350 dollars.
