The city is proposing that large commercial trucks stick to Highway 11/17 and Highway 61 for as long as they can before entering or leaving Thunder Bay.
It’s part of the City’s proposed designated truck route, something Engineering Director Kayla Dixon feels will be well received by the local trucking industry.
“There will be some minor increases in travel time for trucks that took Highway 102 before and now have to take the Shabaqua extension.”
She adds that residents on Highway 102 and Arthur Street should be happy because it will get the majority of truck traffic off of those routes.
Dixon explains transports that have business within the city limits can detour off of the set route.
“Trucks are able to go to any destination within the city but they do need to stay on the designated truck route as long as they can before coming off of it.”
