The COVID-19 vaccine is coming to Fort William First Nation.
Chief Peter Collins explains they’re asking their membership to start registering now, and the most vulnerable will be vaccinated this week starting with older adults and those with underlying health conditions and disabilities.
“In the next go-around, which we’re anticipating between March 31st and April 31st, the remainder of our community from 18 and above will be vaccinated,” he says.
Collins indicates the vaccine will be available to the entire community quickly because the province considers the First Nation at higher risk.
He calls starting the vaccinations a critical step.
“Being so close to the urban setting, being so close to what’s impacting the city today and impacting our community, I think it’s a game-changer for us, but I’m not going to let our guard down,” he says.
The shots will be administered in the bingo hall at the Community Centre this Thursday and Friday.
You can find more information about the community’s vaccination plan on the First Nation’s website.
