A strong shipping season at the Port of Thunder Bay continues.
“The port has handled modern record volumes of key cargoes this season including potash and phosphate fertilizer,” said the port in a release.
According to the port, with a month remaining in the season, Keefer terminal has already recorded its strongest annual cargo volume in decades.
November continued a strong season with potash volumes being shipped from the port’s dry bulk terminal nearly doubling tonnage from November 2023.
The port has not recorded potash numbers this high in 40 years.
Grain continues to head through the port in good numbers following an extremely strong September and October.
The year-to-date grain volume exceeds the five-year average by over 500,000 metric tons.
Coal and dry bulk was also up compared to last year while general cargo at Keefer was down.
So far this year, 432 ships have visited the port up from last year’s, year-to-date comparison of 388.
