A Thunder Bay resident has died after being treated for injuries following a fire at McIvor Court.
The province’s Fire marshall investigated the scene and determined the cause of the fire was not suspicious.
They concluded that the cause was improper disposal of smoking materials.
Fire Rescue was sent to McIvor Court around 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, after receiving reports of smoke coming from a second-storey window.
Crews found a fire burning in an apartment’s bedroom and quickly put out the flames before it could spread to neighbouring apartments.
The resident was found while Fire Rescue was searching the affected apartment and they were sent to Thunder Bay’s Health Sciences Centre for treatment.
The fire impacted no other apartments, and no other injuries were reported.
