This Saturday Finnish culture will come alive in Thunder Bay for St. Urho’s Day.
St. Urho is a legend which originated in Michigan and plays off the myths of St. Patrick’s day, however instead of St. Patrick driving the snakes away from Ireland, the St. Urho myth revolves around him chasing the grasshoppers away from Finland’s vineyards, saving the grape crops.
Events will take place starting at noon with a sidewalk parade, variety show and craft market.
The parade will begin at the Bay Credit Union on Algoma Street, travel down Bay Street to Water Street before heading north to the Prince Arthur Hotel, where the variety show and craft market will be set up.
Events will run until 4 p.m.
