Queen’s Park is back in session this week following the winter break.
Thunder Bay – Atikokan’s Kevin Holland says meeting with constituents has recharged him for the next sitting, noting he was able to get updates to various initiatives and issues, which could help pivot policies going forward.
“Having the opportunity to engage with my colleagues and Ministers, and bring them up to speed on some of the conversations I’ve had like I said, is I’m looking forward to that so we can secure what we need here.
Holland notes he is particularly proud of recent announcements geared towards healthcare in the region, adding so far there has been more than 30 million dollars over base funding provided to that sector in the riding.
Meanwhile, for Thunder Bay – Superior North’s Lise Vaugeois, there was minimal downtime.
She says she has been working on a private members bill to bring about change to WSIB, which was initially set up to help workers until they recover.
However, those with permanent injuries are often forced to go onto ODSP.
“The basic poverty level is around 2,200 dollars, well ODSP is 1,300 dollars. It winds up being a public expense that is supposed to be an expense that businesses pay into. It’s not supposed to be public.”
Additionally, Vaugeois is also working on a second private members bill, geared towards highway safety.
