A quick response from fire crews is being credited towards the prevention of a basement fire from spreading at a Current River address over the weekend.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue were called to a Leslie Avenue home Friday evening after the homeowner, who had been having electrical issues and was checking the electrical panel, discovered a fire in the dropped ceiling.
Upon arrival crews discovered smoke, prompting a call for additional units, and while investigating discovered the fire was moving between the floor joists of the main floor, firefighters then extinguished the blaze, preventing further spread.
Damage from fire and water was limited to the basement but smoke managed to spread throughout the home.
No injuries were reported.
