The parent company of Bearskin Airlines, Perimeter Aviation, says its decision to announce the suspension of services to three Northwestern Ontario communities is a regrettable one.
In a release the company states despite efforts to provide connections, the sustained impact of the pandemic has resulted in what it calls an “unprecedented decline” in passenger demand.
“Travel levels in Dryden, Kenora, and Fort Frances have not rebounded to pre-COVID levels, posing significant challenges to the sustainability of our operations in these communities.”
According to the air carrier over the last year the three destinations saw an average of two passengers per flight, which reflected the drastic reduction in demand for air travel in the region overall.
It notes however it remains committed to supporting air connectivity in Northwestern Ontario, and will continue to operate its regular scheduled flights to Red Lake, Sioux Lookout, Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, and North Bay.
