Following a breakdown in talks on December 14th, members of the Amalgamated Transit Union have voted 99 percent in support of strike action.
A post to the union’s website states negotiations with the City of Thunder Bay had been on going since just before the previous Collective Agreement expired on June 30th.
In a statement ATU 966 President Fred Caputo calls it a very difficult and frustrating time for members.
“They have been working under staffed and in an ever-increasing stressful work environment in an attempt to keep Conventional buses and Lift+ specialized units on the road for the riding public.”
He is also calling out the the City of Thunder Bay over wages accusing it of saying one thing and doing something different.
“Members are fed up hearing there is no money for ATU members and then seeing City Administration staff increase their wage bands by 12% with no concessions.”
The post concludes by stating membership deserve a fair agreement for their hard work and dedication to the riding public of Thunder Bay.
