A warrant calling for the arrest of Russian President, Vladimir Putin, was issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The court issued the warrant on Friday for Putin and the Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights in Russia, Maria Alekseyevna Lvova-Belova.
Both are accused of illegally deporting children and the unlawful transfer of people from Ukraine to Russia.
Initially, the ICC considered keeping the warrants secret ” in order to protect victims and witnesses and also to safeguard the investigation”. It was decided to go public with the information in hopes that it might “contribute to the prevention of the further commission of crimes”.
