The Transportation Safety Board has released its findings from a plane crash South of Sioux Lookout earlier this year, and they say pilot qualifications likely contributed to the crash, which killed four people.
The plane left Dryden, bound for Marathon, and had been flying in what the report calls a “zig-zag” pattern before it disappeared from radar 45 minutes after takeoff.
The 26-year-old pilot had only held his commercial licence for two years, and no entries in his logbook identified any night flying entries in the previous six months.
It is believed he was using instrumentation during the flight, which he was not certified to do.
The pilot and three passengers were killed, including Duncan Bailey of Kamloops, B.C., and Gene Karl Lahrkamp of Kincardine, Ontario.
Both were wanted at the time in connection to gang-related murders in B.C. and Thailand.
