A Thunder Bay man has been arrested after they assaulted an individual with a can of beer during a grocery theft at a south side business Friday.
Police were called to the Safeway on Arthur Street West for a reported robbery and upon arrival took the 19-year-old male into custody.
The investigation revealed the male entered the store, took beer and other items, then left without paying. Store security confronted the individual and escorted them back inside. The accused then began throwing items at staff, walked to a cash register and attempted to take money from it, before leaving the store again.
One person was struck by a beer can during the altercation, but declined medical attention.
The male has been charged with:

• Breach of RecognizanceHe appeared in bail court this weekend, and was released with conditions and a future court date.
