Northwestern Ontario is getting more correctional officers.
The province announced that 98 new officers are joining the front lines, including 26 coming to northern Ontario.
They are touting that the new officers are part of the more than 500 million dollars that’s being invested into modernizing adult correctional services and facilities.
The 26 graduates will work in the Northern Region at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre, Fort Frances Jail, Kenora Jail, Monteith Correctional Complex, Sudbury Jail, Thunder Bay Jail and Thunder Bay Correctional Centre.
The officer allocations for the Northwest are as follows:
Thunder Bay Correctional Centre: 8
Thunder Bay Jail : 7
Kenora Jail: 2
Fort Frances Jail: 2
The Thunder Bay Jail and the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre will see new officers in the coming weeks.
