There appears to have been some fraudulent voting in the Tbaytel For Good Community Fund contest.
Documents obtained by Acadia News show an email informing Semi-Finalists of the detection of fraudulent voting, and all the votes to date will be adjusted to remove those Tbaytel has identified as being fraudulent.
A Tbaytel spokesperson has confirmed the contents of the email.
A release from the company states:
“Fraudulent voting for the Community Fund was detected across all 12 of the ideas and we let our semi-finalists know as soon as possible. We also posted it on social media and our website. We have removed all votes that were identified as fraudulent and voting totals have now been revised after our security protections and measures identified anomalies in our voting tallies. We have added further measures and are constantly validating the data to ensure transparency for a fair and equitable result. We are confident that the matter has been resolved…
…We share everyone’s disappointment and frustration in this process. The Tbaytel For Good Community Fund was created to inspire members of the community we serve to make our neighbourhood a better place and raise awareness for the people and organizations across northern Ontario who continue to make it the amazing place that it is. We encourage everyone to keep voting for their favourite project until October 18 at 4 p.m. and look forward to announcing the winners on October 26.”
