After 11 weeks on the picket lines, safety inspectors of the Technical Standards and Safety Authority have ratified their first Collective Agreement.
The 170 members of OPSEU Local 546 inspect everything from boilers and elevators to gas stations and midway rides at local fairs and at the C-L-E.
In 2021 the inspectors unionized but after eight months of failed first contract bargaining talks, the strike began on July 21st.
Bargaining Team member Cory Knipe says safety inspectors joined OPSEU to address longstanding workplace issues and to gain a stronger voice. “Ratifying our first Collective Agreement – one that we can build on for years to come – is a very special moment for us. It means we can get back to the work we love, keeping Ontario safe.”
The strike came to an end on October 8th following a vote by members, the results of which are not being made available to the public.
