Its been less than a month since the new $700,000 playground at Centennial Park was opened which featured several new additions including several carvings that provided a visual, tactile and educational experience to visitors.
But a brazen act of vandalism has damaged some of those carvings.
Staff at Centennial Park discovered the damage while conducting a routine inspection.
“It is extremely disappointing.” says Parks and Open Space Planning Supervisor Werner Schwar, “The new play area at Centennial has been very well-received and when you’ve seen how children interact with the carvings and how much joy they bring, it’s hard to imagine why anyone would do such a thing.”
Three carvings were left undamaged.
City staff are investigating repair options and the incident has been reported to Thunder Bay Police. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers.
