Menstrual products will remain free at city facilities.
In a world where period poverty is real and largely because of limited accessibility and cost, the City of Thunder Bay is choosing to go above.
Products like tampons and pads will be available for people who menstruate for free after a recommendation came from the city’s Administration to continue a pilot project.
The project to provide free menstrual products at city facilities started in October 2021 and has cost just under $29,000 so far.
Dispensers will be monitored for wasted products and underused locations and will be relocated for better access to those who need them.
