The Royal Canadian Mint unveiling a new loonie featuring legendary jazz pianist Oscar Peterson.
Born in Montreal in 1925, Peterson won numerous Grammy’s and Juno’s over his 60 year career and was inducted into Canada’s Music Hall of Fame.
The new circulation coin makes history in Canada as having the first Black Canadian and first musician on a coin going into Canadian’s pockets.
The release today coincides with Peterson’s birthday.
There will be three million coins in circulation depicting the Oscar Peterson who was known as “the man with four hands”.
