The MPP for Thunder Bay-Superior North is looking forward to working with the Official Opposition in her added role.
Lise Vaugeois was named Wednesday as the Critic for Seniors, Persons Living with Disabilities and Accessibility.
Vaugeois feels she can draw on what she learned while on the board of the Thunder Bay and District Injured Workers Support Group for the last four years.
“I really learned quite a lot about what people are facing when they have a disability,” Vaugeois told Acadia News Thursday. “Any one of us could have some disability or something that makes it more difficult to go about our daily lives. Also, I am a senior myself now, and I’m quite aware of how things change as you get older. In my experience, when things are made accessible for people with any kind of disability, that actually serves everyone’s interest. I don’t think of people with disabilities or seniors as being special interests but rather we are them and they are us.”
Vaugeois is looking forward to engaging further with Raymond Cho (Scarborough North), who was named the Minister for Seniors and Accessibility, along with his Parliamentary Assistant Daisy Wai (Richmond Hill).
The party also made history by choosing Sol Mamakwa (Kiiwetinoong) as a deputy leader, which marks the first time an Indigenous individual has held the role in Ontario.
