Ongoing efforts to push the sport of lacrosse in Northwestern Ontario.
Play continues for the 2022 season of the Thunder Bay Lacrosse League after they chose not to run a 2021 campaign due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Players can start as young as four years old and can continue playing past the age of 21.
Lauryn Graham used to play hockey and now serves as the league’s media and marketing director.
“I wanted to get more involved (behind the scenes) because I really liked the community that I was building for women’s sports. I also saw how involved and how passionate the (Executive Board) was about ensuring that our girls’ teams got to do as much as they could,” Graham added.
The season began on Monday, April 11th and the league follows the direction of the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA).
When discussing any COVID-19 protocols that are still in place, Graham mentioned, “Ensuring that you don’t show up to the rink with any sort of symptoms and that everyone is healthy. We also want to push an inclusive environment for everyone, similar to two years ago when we were fully operational.”
Graham said league awareness continues to be top of mind for her.
“We really try and get out there as possible but lots of people who live in the community still say ‘oh I didn’t even know there was lacrosse in Thunder Bay’ so we do our best to be involved in as many city of Thunder Bay events to get our name out there,” Graham noted.
