Have you been working on the yard and have the waste ready to go? This week is the start of leaf and yard waste collection in the city, from Tuesday, October 26 to Friday, November 5. Be sure to put your collection in those big Kraft paper bags and put them out when you put out your recycling, then next year you get to use the compost at the Solid Waste and Recycling facility. Check your waste collection calendar.
The City of Thunder Bay’s fall curbside collection of leaf & yard waste runs from Oct. 26-Nov. 5, on residents’ regular recycling days. https://t.co/5Ri4FrCQKF pic.twitter.com/kEmTOp5CtX

It’s always fun to rake up the leaves although the Nature Conservancy of Canada wants you to leave the leaves on the ground, to help with the insects and pollinators in your yard for hibernation during the winter, as a way to support what they call backyard biodiversity.
Thank us later for removing another task from your chore list. Leaving the leaves is better for your lawn & our ecosystem. A thin layer of leaves can also be beneficial to butterflies, moths, caterpillars, and other insects that rely on nutrients in your soil.🍃🍂#StepIntoNature pic.twitter.com/Wdz3O4cBQq

Well I did and was able to mow the lawn probably for the last time this year, since it has been so warm lately. My neighbour Art McKay said the last time he remembered mowing his lawn so late was the third week of November, with the hot temperatures we had, back in 1983.
