Repairs are done on the Marina Park Overpass, which will reopen to pedestrians for the first time in over a year.
The overpass was taken down August of 2020, and returned earlier this month after $1.8 million worth of work.
City Project engineer Mike Vogrig says it underwent a final inspection and everything looked good.
“We were kind of nickle-and-diming trying to find anything that was wrong, but things seemed pretty much good to go,” added Vogrig.
The parking lot under the overpass is also open now that the contractor has finished at the site.
Once you enter the walkway over Water Street again, you may notice some differences.
Vogrig points out the art that decorated the concrete deck is gone, because the deck has been completely replaced, but he believes the art will return.
Vogrig says that with maintenance, the coating on the steel structure should last about 15 years and the steel itself will last 25 to 35 years before it needs to be replaced.
Seals between the concrete deck and steel beams may need replacement every five to 10 years.
