With the forest fire hazard remaining high to extreme, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is putting the Kenora, Fort Frances, Dryden, and southern parts of the Sioux Lookout and Red Lake fire districts into restricted fire zones.
The order came into effect at 12:01 a.m. June 30th and will be in place until further notice.
Inside the restricted zone, all outdoor fires are banned. The MNRF says you can still use portable gas stoves, but if you are going to use one you need to use extreme care.
They tell us that there were two new fires reported by the afternoon of June 29th; one in the Thunder Bay district and one in the Dryden district. Dryden fire #52, located around 30 kilometres north of Ignace on an island on Heathwalt Lake, is being observed by crews at 0.1 hectares in size.
As of Tuesday night, the Province says there are 41 fires across northwestern Ontario. 11 are not under control, two are being held, 12 are being observed and 16 are under control.
The fire hazard is mainly high to extreme across the northwest, though it becomes low to moderate as you go east.
