There is hope by the owner of the old courthouse on Camelot Street transformation into a hotel will be done next month.
Spokesperson Jim Pedwell adds the main idea for the hotel will be hosting weddings.
“We’re also going to be hosting some meetings, or educational opportunities… there was a group that approached us for next year, they are hosting a conference… they’re probably going to book the entire hotel.”
Management is maintaining as much of the original structure as possible to keep the historic feel of the building in place.
He also patiently notes what the core problem has been to slow things down.
“Especially with an old building like this, the walls are over a foot thick, concrete and you have to do a lot of drilling, that takes a lot of work. And, being an historical building, we’re having to keep a lot of the features.”
There are tours currently taking place and weddings scheduled for the summer.
Pedwell adds they’re hearing from people interested in staying from as far as Edmonton.
“Our staircase with the chandeliers, the location on the hill, being outside… you’ve got a great view of the lake, Sleeping Giant, etcetera. So, being an old historic building, there’s lots of character in this place.”
