Nobody was hurt in a cement truck fire near the Island Drive Bridge.
Around eight o’clock last night, city firefighters were alerted by a large plume of smoke coming from two burning trucks.
They are still looking into the cause of the fire.
Platoon Chief Harold Spithoff explains it’s not clear how it started, because the two trucks were far from any main road and it took some time for firefighters to make their way to the fire.
Spithoff adds the fire also alarmed some people who believed it had set off an explosion.
“There was a very loud bang that happened from the fire, because one of the tires blew up. It spurred a lot of calls from people who heard this ‘explosion,’ so to speak, and they were quite concerned,” the Platoon Chief explains.
