A candlelight vigil is being held today at Lakehead University’s Agora building to honour those who lost their lives on a Ukrainian jet that crashed after leaving Tehran.
Lakehead University Student Union’s Multicultural Centre is hosting the vigil this afternoon from 2 until 3 today. One of the organizers is Sara Sadeghi of the Lakehead University Persian Club.
She tells us it is meant to be a way for the Thunder Bay community to come together to show support for the victims and their surviving family members to “let the loved ones know they are not alone and give the victims the respect that they deserve.”
Sadeghi tells us there are a number of Iranian students who attend Lakehead University.
176 people died in the crash. The federal government previously said that 63 of them were Canadians, but now says the correct figure is 57.
