A new monument honouring the 52nd Battalion of the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment is being dedicated this morning.
Tim Groulx with the LSSR Senate says although there are several monuments to other groups throughout the city, there was no formal monument to the 743 members of the 52nd Battalion who died in World War 1.
“Somehow, we had forgotten Northwestern Ontario’s contribution to World War 1 and the price that was paid 100 years ago. And so the Senate of the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment decided we were going to fix that situation,” he explains.
Groulx says they are dedicating it today from 10 to noon at Current River Park.
“That big field in Current River Park is where the battalion came together,” he notes.
