Another scam is making its rounds in Thunder Bay.
City police’s Economic Crime Unit has received tips about people receiving fraudulent texts, demanding cryptocurrency.
In the messages, the scammers claim to have hacked your device, including cameras and microphone and allege to have evidence that the recipient has been accessing illegal online material.
The scammer threatens to expose you unless they are paid.
The message may include personal information and will have specific instructions on how to make a payment.
City police are urging residents to delete the fraudulent messages if they received them.
They also encourage you to reach out to warn those who may be vulnerable to being targeted by scams.
