Thunder Bay’s north core renewal is advancing to its next phase.
The closure of Red River Road is extending to Court Street starting on Tuesday.
Red River Road will be closed to vehicular traffic between Court Street and Cumberland Street.
Pedestrian access to businesses on both sides of Red River Road will remain available.
The Red River Road and Cumberland Street intersection is expected to reopen by late summer, while work proceeds on other sections of Red River Road.
The North Core Streetscapes project includes the replacement of sewer and watermains on Red River Road and Court Street, as well as significant improvements to streets and sidewalks.
The hope is that the changes will allow for more public events, patio and vendor space, and improved walkability in the downtown core.
