Ontario’s Finance Minister will table the 2024 budget on March 26th.
In a video posted to social media Peter Bethenfalvy laid out the focus of the upcoming fiscal document which targets housing, transit, healthcare and other infrastructure, while also taking shots at past governments.
“Previous government’s left Ontario underfunded, under built and unprepared. Workers, families and businesses were left behind.”
Bethenfalvy also pointed to the Ford Government’s “Get It Done Act” which was recently introduced as part of the road map for the 2024 budget.
That document includes the introduction of automated licence plate renewals, freezing fees on driver’s licenses and Ontario Photo Card fees, putting carbon tax programs introduced by future governments up for a vote, and improving the process for mine permitting among other initiatives.
Last November in the Fall Economic Outlook, Bethenfalvy forecast a $5.3 billion dollar deficit for 2024-2025, with a balanced budget the following year.
Ontario’s budget comes out three weeks before the federal government introduces its own budget for the year.
