Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has released more information in connection to the incident which took place at the Thunder Centre last Friday.
The agency confirmed earlier this week an officer with the Thunder Bay Police Service had discharged a non-lethal firearm, while responding to reports of a man waving what appeared to be a handgun.
It has now identified the device as an ARWEN, which struck the man with one of its projectiles.
He was taken to hospital as a precaution.
The handgun has also been identified as an airsoft gun.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact the SIU.
