Ontario Provincial Police are reminding residents to take precautions against the theft of personal items from their vehicles.
The Lock it or Lose it program will see officers on patrol examine parked vehicles to make sure no valuables are being left in plain view, such as spare change, purses, phones, cameras and other items.
A note will be left on the windshield of the vehicle which will identify any issues and offer suggestions for the future.
Police are also offering other preventative tips:
- Always roll up your vehicle’s windows, lock the doors and pocket the key.
- If you have a garage, use it and lock the door as well as your vehicle.
- Always park your vehicle in a well-lit area.
- Never leave valuable objects or packages in full view.
- Never leave your vehicle unattended while it is running.
The Ontario Provincial Police are asking the public to do their part to protect vehicles and their contents from theft.
