Some post-secondary institutions have criticized the Trudeau Government’s decision to limit the number of international students, noting it would impact their financial viability.
When asked if the government would fine tune the limitation to specific institutions Justin Trudeau balked at the argument put forward by impacted colleges and universities.
“We’ve seen a rise in suicides in international students, we’ve seen unbelievable mental health stress…so no the ‘financial viability of institutions’ doesn’t stack up against the well being of people who want to learn, contribute to our country contribute to their country.”
Trudeau adds the system has seen such rapid growth and pressure put on students and communities, and the pause was needed to correct the system to make sure it supports those where they need it.
