Hearings have now begun as part of the public inquiry of Foreign Interference into Canadian elections.
It is alleged several foreign states, including China and Russia, interfered in two federal elections held in 2019 and 2021.
This week the inquiry will address challenges related to the public disclosure of classified information and intelligence.
Commission lead Justice Marie-Josée Hogue outlines what the end goal is for the year long inquiry.
“It’s objective is to search for the truth. Seeking to understand what happened in order to inform the public and make recommendations to the government. It attempts to identify all relevant facts and then draw conclusions.”
The inquiry is also being broken up into two phases, with the first report due on May 3rd, and the second due on December 31st.
