As work continues on twinning of the Trans Canada Highway between Nipigon and Thunder Bay, another high profile section to the west is about to hit a milestone.
Northern Development Minister Greg Rickford says the first section between the Manitoba border and Kenora is on time, on budget and should be completed later on this year.
“It’s my understanding as soon as the spring comes they’re back to work in earnest and I’m hopeful we’ll have a section of actual twinned highway in the not too distant future.”
The MPP for Kenora-Rainy River adds he wants to see the second phase of the project from the turn off at Iskatewizaagegan First Nation (Shoal Lake #39) to the weigh scales in the Rush Bay area to start as soon as the first phase is completed.
Work is expected to continue in the spring on the twinning of the Trans Canada near the Manitoba border with the completion of phase one expected sometime in 2024 (Adam Riley / Acadia Broadcasting)
