An Illinois man been fined $3,000 and prohibited from possessing a fishing licence or engaging in any fishing activities in Canada at all for the next three years following a guilty plea this past November.
The penalties stem back to June of 2023, when Conservation Officers were conducting patrols in the 801 Road area near Greenstone and encountered Daniel Weck of Marengo, who was staying at a nearby outfitters cabin.
Weck had been fishing in Management Zones 6 and 7 which allowed him to possess 6 walleye.
But when CO’s inspected the fish in his possession, which had been filleted with no skin remaining to easily identify the species, they counted 16 walleye, 10 over the limit.
In addition to the fine and fishing ban, all 16 walleye were forfeited to the Crown.
