The Township of Ignace says it is looking for more residents to join its Willingness Committee as part of the selection process for an underground nuclear waste storage facility.
The decision to expand the committee’s roster from six to nine members come following the passing of a resolution by council at a special meeting held on December 7th.
Officials say the odd number of members will allow for any tie votes to be broken if necessary.
Additionally, the town is seeking those with expanded skill sets which would better represent various demographics such as the business sector or younger residents.
Interested parties have until 3:00 p.m. on January 12th to apply.
It is anticipated the Nuclear Waste Management Organization will be making a final decision on where the facility will be located in 2024, which is down to two locations in Ontario, in the Ignace area and South Bruce area.
