City police had their hands full on the New Year’s weekend with seven drivers being charged.
According to a release from the Thunder Bay Police Service, of those seven, six were charged with impaired operation and operation with blood alcohol concentration above 8o milligrams, while one was given an impaired operation charge and a failure to comply with a demand charge.
Notably there were two incidents on New Year’s Eve which stood out from group.
The first took place in the late afternoon when police responded to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Memorial and Central Avenue.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported but a 77 year old man was arrested.
While undergoing further testing at the Balmoral Street station, he was found to be two-and-a-half times the legal limit.
The other took place just before midnight on December 31st, when an officer observed a red light violation and pulled a driver over on Cumberland Street South.
Signs of impairment were observed and the driver was taken to police headquarters for further testing, which he refused.
As it turns out the 32 year old had been driving while prohibited for a previous impaired conviction and was also suspended driver.
