Ontario Provincial Police have charged a senior officer of the Thunder Bay Police Service following an investigation requested by the Ministry of the Attorney General into allegations of misconduct by members of the service.
The investigation began in 2021 and led to an investigation by the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch.
It focused on incidents which occurred in August of 2014, October of 2016, and November of 2020.
Staff Sergeant Mike Dimini has been arrested and charged with:
- Assault, section 266 – two counts
- Breach of trust by a public officer, section 122
- Obstruct justice, section 139
In a release the Thunder Bay Police Service states it is aware of the arrest and that the officer is now on leave as per the Police Services Act.
Dimini has been released from custody and is slated to appear in court on January 9th, 2024.
Meanwhile, the investigation remains ongoing.
