Around 8am, Thursday morning, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue arrived at a business on May Street N. that was reported to be on fire.
Firefighters from nearby Station 1 on Vickers Street responded quickly and made entry into the building located on the corner of May St. N. and Victoria Ave E.
Crews encountered heavy smoke and started an interior attack on the blaze where they made their way toward the back of the structure to quickly extinguish the blaze. Additional fire fighting units arrived on the scene to assist with search and ventilation efforts.
No occupants were found inside the building.
It’s reported the building suffered from heavy fire damage, and while the flames were contained that unit smoke damaged other portions of the building. The cause of the fire was undetermined at the time of the incident. Police are in control of the scene and conducting an investigation.
A total of 1 pumper rescue truck, 5 pumper trucks, 1 aerial ladder truck, and the Platoon Chief responded to the incident. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters as a result of the fire.
