Netflix has mentioned before that they want to cut down on the number of shared accounts across its platform.
In Peru, Costa Rica and Chile the streaming giant trialled its method to stop the sharing of accounts by tracking IP addresses and device IDs.
During the trial, users had to set up a “primary location” on their TV. Then, if the account was accessed from another location outside of its primary one the device gets blocked.
Recently, in a letter to its shareholders on January 19, Netflix said that account holders can add people to their primary account for an additional fee. The streamer wants to implement the adjusted platform by the end of the first quarter of 2023.
It wasn’t clear in the letter if the rollout would be exactly like the one in Latin America, where the rollout would be happening and if it would include Canada right away.
