A Southern Ontario man remains in custody on assault and drug trafficking charges following an incident at the Thunder Bay International Airport Tuesday.
The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. when police were called to the airport following reports a male had assaulted security guards.
The accused had been selected for an airport screening, during which guards became suspicious that he was attempting to conceal something.
When they informed him police would be called, he attempted to flee, assaulting two guards, a bystander and damaging a sliding door at the airport in the process.
A 25 year old Peterborough man was taken into custody upon arrival of officers.
Paramedics with Superior North EMS were called and took one of the assault victims to hospital with what police believe to be minor injuries.
A quantity of suspected fentanyl, almost $39,000 dollars in Canadian currency and drug trafficking equipment were seized from the accused, and as a result faces the following charges:
• Assault x 4
• Mischief Under $5,000 • Possession of Fentanyl for the Purpose of Trafficking • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000He appeared in court today and was remanded into custody, with a future appearance date.
