There is a lot on the agenda this week for Thunder Bay City Council, starting with Committee of the Whole.
There, council will hear a presentation from Age Friendly Thunder Bay, followed up by a Poverty Reduction Strategy presentation and a Food Strategy Annual Report presentation.
As well council will hear a deputation from Mike Veneziale from Soccer Northwest regarding the indoor turf facility.
Speaking to Acadia News on Thursday Mayor Ken Boshcoff believes many members of council are glad Soccer Northwest is coming back to council with what he calls ‘something reasonable’, especially on the price point.
“What the parents want is a multi use, so that other activities can keep it full during the days when there is not soccer, of a turf facility that people can use for different sports at a modest price. So the way the prices have come in for this, I think we’re on the way.”
Several reports are slated to be presented including a request for additional appropriation for the 2022 ambulance order, a report regarding Bill-23, The More Homes Built Faster Act, which has seen opposition from several communities across Ontario.
Council will also hear a report that is requesting the approval to refurbish the ice plant at the Thunder Bay Tournament Centre, to the tune of $108, 108.95, which if passed at Committee of the Whole, would be put to council later in the evening and require a two-thirds vote.
A request is also in that would see the expansion of the Public Safety Radio System, currently used by agencies such as Police, Fire and Transit, to includie Municipal Enforcement Services. This would include the purchase of radio equipment, set to a price tag of $105, 090.
Other items on the agenda include: the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium Transition Progress Update, a memorandum for a Part-lot Control Exemption By-law at the former Hillcrest High School field, and an update on the Baggage Building Arts Centre operating model.
