A new stand-alone Nursing program is launching at Confederation College and Lakehead University.
Starting in the fall of 2023, prospective students will be able to get an Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Confederation College, and at Lakehead students will earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) through the new four-year programs.
The programs which have been intertwined between both schools will become separate.
At the Thunder Bay campuses, the program weaves the seven Indigenous learning outcomes into the curriculum. This reflects the region that the college serves.
In an email to Acadia News, the Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree will be based out of our Thunder Bay only, however, students can start by taking the 2-year Practical Nursing program (offered in the Region) and bridge into the 3rd year of the BScN (in Thunder Bay) beginning in 2025.
“We know there is a growing need for nurses in Northwestern Ontario,” said Confederation College President Kathleen Lynch. “Our Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program offers students the opportunity to complete a hands-on, four-year degree program in our state-of-the-art facilities. Our equipment and resources are also state-of-the-art and replicate the resources students will use in the field, allowing them to transition seamlessly into the workplace. We have embedded our 7 Indigenous Learning Outcomes in the curriculum to reflect the region we serve.”
This program will not impact students currently enrolled in the Collaborative BScN program between Confederation College and Lakehead University. These students will continue in the Collaborative program until graduation.
