The province is putting more money into health care in a new announcement.
Deputy Health Minister, Sylvia Jones, announced Thursday that Ontario would be investing $182 million this year into hospitals across the province.
131 hospitals and 65 health care facilities are slated to get critical upgrades and repairs. Acadia News reached out to the Ministry for clarification and details on if any of those locations would be in Northwestern Ontario. Their response was “local allocations will be of funding will be provided in the coming weeks”
The plan includes;
- rapid Covid-19 tests to still be available at participating grocery stores/pharmacy locations
- continued availability of Covid-19 and flu shots
- increasing surgeries in paediatric hospitals and existing private clinics covered by OHIP
- funding more than 150,000 additional operating hours for hospital-based MRI and CT machines
- hiring up to 6,000 additional health care workers
- adding 400 physician residents to support the workforce in northern and rural parts of the province
